Poker Face

If you were a game of poker,

I would learn all the rules.

I would become one with the deck of cards,

And hope you’ll pick me over an ace of hearts.

If you were a habit,

I would pick you up.

It would take 3 weeks for me to get used to you,

And a lifetime to let you go.

If you were a virus,

I would let my health fall off.

I would let you eat my insides up,

Until I could not contain you within myself anymore.

If you were a bar,

I would go there every night.

Sit alone and sip on a Shirley Temple,

So none of your details slip my mind.

If you were a book,

I would read you front to back.

Over and over again,

Until the pages start to fall apart.

But you are yourself,

And I cannot be me.

Because it is not enough to hide the fact

That I am not the girl you wish I would be.
